My first (only) digital compact. Mostly used on sailing trips. The camera is comfortable to use and gives good results. Rotary dials give a ‘retro’ feel to the camera and the optical viewfinder is very helpful.

This is Millie’s Mum’s camera. The camera is very compact and boasts many features. The image quality is truly excellent - vivid colour and sharp images. The max focal length of 500mm makes this a very small and versatile compact device.

I initially bought this camera to attach to my Meade 105 ETC telescope as it was very lightweight. The only photograph using this combination that I ever recorded was of the lunar eclipse in March 2007! I mainly used it for my everyday photography, along with my EOS 10D. This camera has now been retired!

Marketed by Canon as an ‘entry level’ DSLR, this camera was acquired as a more up to date alternative to the EOS 400D. I am still getting used to it. One of the interesting features is the ability to record HDR images ‘in camera’ instead of by processing on a PC. The camera is very lightweight and comfortable to use.

This camera is used exclusively for astrophotography as the internal Infra Red filter has been removed. The Live View and Mirror Lock Up functions are extremely useful and the articulated screen makes telescope focusing and image review easy.

I bought this camera to upgrade from my EOS 7D, mainly as it was equipped with a full frame sensor (35mm). This enables best use to be made from my ‘L’ series lenses. With a battery grip and and EF 24-105mm L lens fitted, the camera feels rather heavy after a while but it is my everyday camera and I am always pleased with its results. As this camera does not have its own flash, I use the Speedlite 270EX or the more powerful Speedlite 580EX.

I have used this lens mainly at airshows and sailing events. The image stabiliser is a must! The lens is quite heavy, thanks to the amount of high quality optics contained therein.

This is a serious lens! Brilliant for portrait photography due to its impressive depth of field. As expected, this is a fairly weighty item, along with the price tag.

This has been my ‘workhorse’ lens for many years now and has been used with most of the DSLRs that I have owned. I have always been pleased with the results that it delivers. In terms of handling and ergonomics, this lens is well matched to the Canon EOS XD and XXD range of cameras.

With an aperture of f2.8, this lens does not need an image stabiliser. Very useful for landscape photography.

I used this lens initially on my EOS 100 film camera and then with my EOS digital cameras. It is now used with the 200D as a general purpose everyday lens. A good all round versatile lens.

A good all round image stabilised lens for use with the lighter XXXD cameras with APS-C sensors which give a 1.6x image magnification compared to the 35mm full frame sensor.

Sigma 18-300mm f3.6-6.3 OS
I use this lens with the Canon EOS200. The combination is reasonably light for travelling with and the focal range of 18mm to 300mm means that for the main part, this is the only lens that I would need. It must not be forgotten that the focal range means that the lens is a compromise, but I am very pleased with the results so far. The lens gives good contrast and colour with very little distortion around the edge of the image at wide angle. Auto focusing is near silent and quick as is the optical stabilisation.
